African Land Forces Summit 2025 Wraps Up in Accra, Ghana

ACCRA, Ghana –** The African Land Forces Summit (ALFS) 2025 has successfully concluded with a closing ceremony in Accra. This significant event, co-hosted by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), ran from April 7–10. It brought together land force commanders from nearly 40 African countries, alongside partner nations, academic experts, and government officials, to engage in meaningful discussions centered around this year’s theme, “Optimizing Land Forces for the Emerging Security Environment.”

Major General Andrew C. Gainey, commanding general of SETAF-AF, expressed the summit’s goal of enhancing partnerships. “Meeting with the exceptional leaders here was an honor, and co-hosting this summit with such a strong partner reinforced the importance of our collaborations,” Gainey remarked. He encouraged participants to translate the summit’s insights into actionable strategies, emphasizing unity and a shared mission in bolstering Africa’s security framework.

The Ghana Armed Forces played a pivotal role as co-hosts. Throughout the event, African land force commanders engaged in expert-led discussions. Major General Lawrence Gbetanu of the Ghana Armed Forces noted the summit’s success in fostering strategic interactions and networking opportunities.

Ernest Brogya Genfi, Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Defence, officially closed the summit. He highlighted that the event’s success was measured not only by the depth of its discussions but also by the strategic alliances and networking opportunities it fostered. “This summit has served as a breeding ground for forming bilateral and multilateral agreements to tackle common defense and security challenges,” Genfi noted, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to leading such collaborative efforts.
