The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Foyo Gbande, has reassured Ghanaians of President John Mahama’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting alleged corrupt officials from the former Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
According to Gbande, some former ministers are now attempting to befriend members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in an effort to avoid prosecution.
“They are thinking they will be protected, but we will take them on,” he stated.
Speaking in an interview on 3FM Sunrise with Johnnie Hughes on March 4, Mustapha Gbande emphasized that under Mahama’s leadership, Ghanaians should expect a firm crackdown on corruption, including investigations, prosecutions, and jail sentences for guilty officials.
In light of this, he called on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to take swift action against any individual found guilty of misusing public funds.
“The Special Prosecutor should speed up his game in prosecuting and jailing any culprit,” Gbande urged.
Corruption remains a major challenge in Ghana, draining millions of cedis from the nation’s limited resources. President Mahama, in his State of the Nation Address, pledged to tackle the issue head-on and restore accountability within the government.
