Ghana Ministry Forms High-Level Committee to steer the country’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the Black Stars’ successful qualification. The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has inaugurated this body with a broad mandate that extends well beyond the pitch.
The committee will manage “all necessary financial, administrative, operational, logistical and regulatory arrangements” needed for Ghana’s participation and competitive performance in the tournament. It is also tasked with leveraging the global event to generate socio-cultural, economic, and diplomatic gains for Ghana.
The Terms of Reference further outline objectives such as promoting Ghana’s image globally, strengthening bilateral relations, boosting tourism, and fostering investment. The committee will be responsible for fundraising, securing sponsorships, coordinating training camps, organizing international friendlies, and executing media outreach.
To drive economic engagement, it will coordinate trade missions and cultural events, ensuring the World Cup serves not just as a sporting showcase, but also as a platform for national development.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams will chair the committee, which includes senior officials from key ministries and the Ghana Football Association, as well as private-sector representatives. The committee will remain active until three months after the World Cup, at which point it will deliver a final report to the Cabinet.
This initiative reflects a strategic approach: Ghana is treating its World Cup qualification not just as a sporting success, but as a springboard for broader national benefits. By combining sport with diplomacy and business, the government hopes to amplify the impact of the Black Stars’ participation.
