Government increases 2025/26 cocoa crop season price by GH₵400

The 2025/26 cocoa crop season price has increased by GH₵400 per 64-kilogram bag, giving farmers stronger earnings. Previously, each bag sold for GH₵3,225, but the new rate of GH₵3,625 offers farmers greater income security.

At an emergency press briefing in Accra, Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson explained that updated economic forecasts led the Producer Price Review Committee to raise the rate. He noted that the increase ensures every farmer earns an extra GH₵400 per bag.

The adjustment will help farmers manage cash flow while protecting them from unpredictable shifts in the global cocoa market. Officials confirmed that the government will keep monitoring international prices and step in again when necessary.

Recent data highlight a strong start to the season. In the four weeks ending September 4, farmers delivered 50,440 metric tonnes of cocoa, compared to just 11,000 tonnes during the same period last year. The early opening of the cocoa season in August allowed farmers quicker access to funds, which boosted supply.

Internationally, Ghana also lifted cocoa prices by 4.2%, setting the base rate at GH₵3,228.75 per 64 kg bag. This move discourages smuggling to neighboring countries that offer higher prices. For the 2025/26 season, production is projected at 650,000 tonnes, higher than the 600,000 tonnes recorded last year.

Most of the beans will be exported, with a smaller portion reserved for local processors, ensuring both farmers and the economy benefit from the new pricing structure.
