Mahama launches Ghana infrastructure plan for national renewal

Mahama launches Ghana infrastructure plan aimed at transforming the nation’s development landscape through a long-term, results-driven strategy. President John Dramani Mahama officially unveiled the Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP) in Accra, describing it as a 30-year framework that will guide public investment and ensure continuity across successive governments.

He explained that the plan seeks to prevent project duplication and reduce wasteful spending. The Mahama launches Ghana infrastructure plan initiative focuses on creating modern infrastructure while promoting fiscal discipline, regional equity, and sustainable growth. According to him, achieving the plan’s vision requires collaboration between government, civil society, and the private sector.

The President emphasised that infrastructure development should not depend on political cycles. He noted that with proper execution, the GIP could enhance energy efficiency, expand road networks, improve sanitation, and boost digital transformation. “This plan is not just about building roads and bridges—it’s about building Ghana’s future,” Mahama said.

He also revealed that a Fiscal Responsibility Council would be formed to enforce spending limits and promote transparency. New measures will help reduce corruption and ensure that every Cedi invested yields long-term benefits. Mahama urged stakeholders to monitor the plan closely and hold public officials accountable.

Experts believe the initiative marks a major step toward addressing long-standing infrastructural challenges. However, success will depend on consistent funding and political will. The Ghana Infrastructure Plan provides a roadmap to connect all regions, support industrial growth, and attract investors while ensuring environmental sustainability.

The plan, once implemented, is expected to deliver a more inclusive economy and position Ghana as a regional hub for infrastructure-led growth.
