Medical Director Reveals Potential Multiple Surgeries for Shot Student

In a press briefing on May 5, 2025, Dr. Asiwome Kwesi, the Medical Director at Agarwal Eye Hospital in Accra, shared concerning news about Suzzy Pinaman, a student from Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region. Suzzy, a second-year student, was allegedly shot in the eye by her classmate, Bernard Amoabeng, during a disagreement on April 4, 2025. As a result of this violent incident, the teenager’s condition is critical and she may need multiple surgeries.

Dr. Kwesi detailed the complications involved, noting, “The outcome is still very guarded. The result is uncertain because we are not able to see the back of the eye. And if we cannot see the back of the eye, we can only assume what might be there.”

The incident, captured in a viral video, shows Suzzy being assisted into a hospital following the injury. The bullet fragments have impaired her vision, leaving her unable to see, sleep, or close her eye properly. The severity of her condition has kept her from attending school, and her family faces financial difficulties in managing her treatment.

In a heartfelt video shared online, Suzzy made a public appeal for assistance, particularly reaching out to businessman Ibrahim Mahama and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, saying, “Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Ibrahim Mahama, I am pleading with you to hear my cry and come to my aid. I have no one.”

Ibrahim Mahama responded to this plea through his aide Rafik Mahama, committing to cover all of Suzzy’s medical expenses, both in Ghana and abroad if required.
