An 18-year-old Nigerian student builds AI website app that allows any online platform to become AI-enabled. The innovation, called ChatATP, lets users chat with websites and perform real actions rather than receiving only step-by-step guidance.
Unlike ChatGPT, which explains how to book flights but cannot execute the task, ChatATP serves as a middle layer between websites and large language models (LLMs). With this bridge, users can simply type a command, and the system completes it directly.
The creator, Obinna Chimdi, a Mathematics and Computer Science student at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), faced challenges in finding collaborators. Nevertheless, he taught himself frontend and design skills while building the project alone. His motivation was driven by admiration for Mark Zuckerberg and the desire to establish his own AI company.
ChatATP took six months to develop, as Chimdi had to learn additional skills while solving the limitations of existing AI models. He wanted AI tools that go beyond analysis and actually finish tasks from start to end. This led him to design toolkits and a new protocol, Agents2, which standardizes communication between AI models and websites — similar to how HTTP works for browsers.
Currently, ChatATP has a small user base, including two classmates and a neighbor. Despite limited resources, Chimdi believes the potential is vast. Competing platforms such as AutoGPT and Lumio AI are already backed by strong communities and funding, yet ChatATP offers a fresh approach that emphasizes real-world execution.
Though competition is intense, Chimdi remains determined to grow his project. His work demonstrates how resourcefulness and innovation can emerge even in the face of obstacles, showcasing the ambition of young African developers in the global AI space.
