Otto Addo rallies Black Stars ahead of CAR qualifier

Otto Addo rallies Black Stars ahead of the Central African Republic World Cup qualifier, insisting his side must seize control of their destiny in the 2026 campaign. Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Meknès, Morocco, the Ghana coach emphasized concentration until the final whistle and said he feels confident in his squad’s ability to deliver.

Addo urged players to draw lessons from their earlier game against Chad, where lapses in focus allowed opportunities for their opponents. “We have to fight defensively, especially to the last minute. Surely … we will create chances and we have to score,” he stated, adding that he has a “very, very good feeling” about their prospects.

The coach welcomed back Alidu Seidu and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, both of whom missed previous fixtures due to injuries. He expressed happiness at their return and noted that their performance in league play gave confidence in their readiness. Likewise, Otto admitted the absence of Iñaki Williams is difficult, but praised Brandon Thomas’s form, saying he deserves his place in the squad.

Otto acknowledged that injuries to key players like Abdul Mumin and Ernest Nuamah have complicated selection decisions. Still, he said competition among squad members is healthy and will push everyone to elevate performance. He added that consistency matters, cautioning against making too many changes that could disrupt team cohesion.

Though the match is being played on neutral ground, Addo downplayed any advantage or disadvantage. He also addressed the pressure, saying it is part of his job, especially with Ghana currently atop their qualifying group.

He concluded by thanking Ghanaians for their unwavering support and pledged that the players would give their best in return. Addo believes victory would put the Black Stars in a strong position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
