Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has come forward to aid Suzzy Adwoa Pinaman, a second-year student at Bantama Adventist Senior High School, Ashanti Region, following a devastating incident. Suzzy was inadvertently shot in the eye by a fellow classmate, leading to severe vision impairment.
Emergency Surgery Planned
According to Rafik Mahama, an aide to Ibrahim Mahama, Suzzy is scheduled to travel to Accra on Monday, May 5, 2025, for surgery aimed at restoring her sight. Rafik shared his support for Suzzy in a Facebook post dated May 3, 2025, stating, “Suzzy will be in Accra on Monday to begin the surgery process. Speedy recovery, Suzzy.”
Initial Pleas for Help
GhanaWeb recently highlighted Suzzy’s plea for assistance from prominent figures, including former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, and Ibrahim Mahama. Caught in a dire situation, Suzzy struggles with constant eye pain and inability to attend school, while her mother, with limited resources, remains at a loss for support.
In a video appeal, Suzzy implored, “Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Ibrahim Mahama, I am pleading with you to hear my cry and come to my aid. There are residual bullet fragments in my eyes, and due to that, I can’t sleep. Please help me get my eyes back.”
The Tragic Incident
The unfortunate event unfolded on April 4, 2025, during school hours. Bernard Amoabeng, a fellow Form Two student, allegedly brought a firearm to school, resulting in a tragic accident. While discussing the weapon’s authenticity with classmates, the gun was fired, injuring Suzzy and another student.
Following the incident, the 16-year-old suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody.
This assistance from Ibrahim Mahama brings hope for Suzzy’s recovery and highlights the power of humanitarian support in times of crisis.
