Police Urge MTN Ghana to Enhance Network Connectivity to Combat Armed Robberies in Eastern Region

MTN Ghana network connectivity

The Eastern Regional Police Command has issued a plea to MTN Ghana to urgently address poor network connectivity issues along critical routes in the region, including the Adukrom-Aseseeso, Aseseeso-Somanya stretches, and the Donkorkrom enclave. These areas currently suffer from inadequate mobile coverage, which criminals exploit to ambush unsuspecting commuters and residents, often resulting in robbery and serious injuries.

At the 2025 Stakeholders Forum held in Koforidua, ASP Agyare Kofi Okyere, the Eastern Regional Operations Commander, highlighted the direct correlation between poor network coverage, difficult road conditions, and the increased frequency of armed robberies. He emphasized the need for immediate improvements to aid law enforcement’s operational response and prevent further criminal activities.

Additionally, Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander ACP Richard Appiah addressed the rise in attacks targeting mobile money (MoMo) vendors. The police command is actively educating vendors on safety measures, urging them to avoid openly counting money in public and to conduct transactions from secure cages. Vendors are also encouraged to keep emergency contact numbers for rapid reporting of suspicious activities.

The police authorities believe that strengthening communication infrastructure, combined with vendor vigilance and community cooperation, will substantially reduce armed robbery incidents across the Eastern Region. Enhanced network connectivity will improve real-time communication, enabling quicker police interventions that could save lives and protect property.
