President John Dramani Mahama has announced that no additional disciplinary measures will be taken against Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. This decision comes in the wake of a viral video showing Gyamfi handing over an unspecified amount of U.S. dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa.
The video sparked widespread public criticism and raised concerns about potential violations of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act and the Code of Conduct for public officials. Several civil society groups and members of the minority caucus have called for Gyamfi’s dismissal, arguing his behavior compromised public trust and fell short of the standards expected from a government official.
Despite the controversy, President Mahama has chosen to accept Gyamfi’s public apology and close the case, albeit issuing a stern warning. During a press briefing, the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, stated that the President recognizes the incident as regrettable but has decided against further action.
However, a strong warning has been issued to Gyamfi and all public appointees to strictly follow the Code of Conduct and continually act in ways that uphold public confidence. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated the President’s commitment to accountability and ethical governance but noted that this incident did not justify Gyamfi’s removal.
In other news, Channel One TV is set to host AgriFair, an event aimed at showcasing Ghana’s agricultural potential, highlighting the country’s commitment to enhancing its agricultural sector.
