President Mahama’s SONA Sparks Hope for Economic Growth – Economist

Keta (VR), Feb 28, GNA – Economist Anthony Dagadu has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his bold steps in revitalizing Ghana’s economy through the presentation of the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

According to Mr. Dagadu, the president’s efforts to stabilize the economy and enhance production growth have instilled new hope in Ghanaians, with the potential to yield positive results for the nation’s future.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Dagadu praised President Mahama’s administration for its commitment to implementing policies aimed at reducing inflation, stabilizing the cedi, and fostering economic productivity and public involvement.

“We must commend the president for his plans to invest in infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, and the energy sector. These investments will not only improve the business environment but also enhance the quality of life for Ghanaians,” he stated.

Mr. Dagadu, who is also a governance expert, lauded the president’s decisive approach to addressing Ghana’s economic challenges and steering the country towards sustainable growth and prosperity. He noted that such measures would improve the living standards of public sector workers and stimulate economic activity.

He further explained that President Mahama’s focus on private sector development, particularly in agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, has the potential to drive economic growth and create employment opportunities.

“This is the best State of the Nation Address we have witnessed in the past 16 years. The president presented the real state of the nation without any embellishment. His outlined policies are filled with hope for the future,” Mr. Dagadu asserted.

He specifically applauded the president’s initiative to establish TVET Centers of Excellence across all regions and the implementation of the AgriNext programme, which aims to facilitate access to land banks for young farmers and create opportunities within the agricultural value chain, promoting greenhouse agriculture among the youth.

Additionally, Mr. Dagadu endorsed President Mahama’s directive for the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to roll out a national apprenticeship programme. This initiative aims to provide 10,000 jobs for youth in the information technology sector, covering apprenticeship fees and startup kits, as a means to combat unemployment.

Despite these promising developments, Mr. Dagadu cautioned that more work remains to be done to consolidate Ghana’s economic progress. He urged the administration to continue implementing policies that promote economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.

Meanwhile, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta, pledged his full support to ensure that his constituents, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), benefit from government policies.

“In areas of job creation, water supply, road infrastructure, sea defense, and the ambitious 24-hour economy, as well as the $10 billion ‘Big Push’ policy for rapid infrastructure development, we will ensure that our people benefit significantly,” he affirmed.

Mr. Gakpe emphasized that as Ghana navigates the economic challenges inherited from the previous administration, President Mahama’s government remains committed to promoting economic growth and improving the lives of citizens. He called on all Ghanaians to rally behind policies aimed at national development.

Some residents in Keta, speaking with the GNA, expressed renewed hope that the Mahama administration would revamp the economy, paving the way for national progress and development.
