The Headies 2025: A Celebration of African Music Returns Home

After two years in Atlanta, Georgia, the highly anticipated Headies Awards made their return to Nigeria, gracing the Eko Convention Centre on Victoria Island, Lagos, on a vibrant Sunday night. This year’s event embraced the theme “Back to Base” and “Apologetically African,” celebrating the incredible achievements in African music from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.

The 17th edition of the Headies also saw the introduction of two exciting new categories: “Best Performer (Live)” and “Soundtrack of the Year.” However, the ceremony faced some challenges, with technical issues and timing mishaps causing the event to conclude before announcing winners in several key categories.

Notably, Funke Akindele’s innovative film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” triumphed in the new “Soundtrack of the Year” category.
