Accra Fire Disaster Leaves Victims in Despair at Kwame Nkrumah Circle

In a tragic event at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, victims of a recent fire outbreak have begun the difficult process of assessing their devastating losses. As the sun rose yesterday, many were seen meticulously going through the remains of what once were their livelihoods.

While some victims searched for salvageable items among the ashes, others took the opportunity to gather scrap materials, highlighting the dire circumstances in which many find themselves. An excavator was present, actively clearing the remnants of the market that had been consumed by flames.

Although the official cause of the fire remains undisclosed, several victims are pointing towards a potential gas explosion originating from a shop where one of the traders was reportedly cooking at the time of the disaster.

One victim, Ishmael Musa, who helps his mother operate a food stall, expressed the emotional toll the incident has taken on his family. “We have lost everything,” he lamented. “Since the fire, my family and I have been sleeping at the VVIP station. We are in desperate need of assistance to rebuild our lives.”

Musa mentioned that victims have been asked to provide their personal details to authorities, yet they have not received any tangible support in return.

Dora Frimpong, another trader affected by the fire, shared her heartbreak over losing all her possessions, including a refrigerator that was vital to her business. She urged local authorities to step in and help restore their livelihoods, fearing that without assistance, survival would become increasingly difficult. Additionally, she pleaded that they not be evicted from the area, as it has been their trading ground since childhood.

The community is rallying together in the aftermath of this devastating event, calling for prompt action from local officials to support those affected. As the victims sift through their losses, the hope for recovery remains strong, but time is of the essence.
