In a surprising revelation, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, shared details of a significant personal gesture from former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong. During an appearance on Channel One TV on February 16, 2026, Afenyo-Markin disclosed that Agyapong had provided him with $5 million to help revive his struggling business, a transaction made without any formal agreement.
Afenyo-Markin characterized Agyapong’s financial assistance as a testament to their longstanding friendship and mutual trust. He stressed that their relationship transcends political affiliations and electoral outcomes, saying, “Kennedy took a risk by giving me that money. We are more than just colleagues; our history together is profound. It is inappropriate to view our connection solely through the lens of politics.”
Reflecting on Agyapong’s recent success in the NPP presidential primaries within the Effutu constituency, where he secured 644 votes against former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 79, Afenyo-Markin was not surprised. He attributed Agyapong’s victory to his extensive contributions to the local community over the years. “Kennedy has been a tremendous help to the people of Winneba. His support dates back to 2012 when he assisted us financially on election day, ensuring we could clean up and prepare for the polls. He has consistently given back to the community, providing resources like taxis, tractors, and outboard motors,” he recounted.
Moreover, Afenyo-Markin mentioned that in honor of Agyapong’s contributions, he is in the process of constructing an ICT facility, a project that has been in the works for five years. This initiative highlights the depth of their relationship and the impact of Agyapong’s support on both Afenyo-Markin’s personal and professional life.
