Starting in October 2025, AI learning apps for SHS students will roll out nationwide, reaching more than 1.4 million senior high school students in Ghana. The apps will also assist over 68,000 teachers as they adopt the new SHS curriculum and enhance classroom delivery.
Nationwide Rollout and Partners
The Ministry of Education developed these subject-based AI tools directly from Ghana’s curriculum resources—teacher manuals, lesson plans, and assessments. The apps can run both online and offline, giving equal access to rural and urban schools. To make the rollout successful, the Ministry is working with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), the National Teaching Council (NTC), and the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA). Transforming Teaching, Education, and Learning (T-TEL) and other partners are also supporting the project.
Four-Phase Testing and Pilot Implementation
NaCCA created a four-stage testing process to check the apps for technical reliability, educational quality, user experience, and regional readiness. Pilot testing has already begun in 712 senior high schools. Teachers there joined Professional Learning Community (PLC) workshops to learn how to use the tools effectively. Once the rollout expands, more than 7,800 SHS-based facilitators will receive training across the country.
Goals and Expected Impact
The Ministry aims to strengthen teaching and learning outcomes through these AI apps. Teachers will gain digital resources that make classroom delivery more engaging and effective. By blending technology with pedagogy, the program seeks to raise student performance and modernize education in Ghana.
