The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has presented a cheque for GH¢50,000 to the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons to help get the facility's out-of-service ambulance back on the road.

The Minority Chief Whip made the donation on Sunday, November 8, 2026, as first reported by Citi News.

According to the report, the MP had visited the prison last month, when he donated assorted items and met authorities to learn about the difficulties they face. It was during that visit that he was told the ambulance, originally donated to the facility by Rev. Owusu Ansah, had developed a fault and needed servicing.

The vehicle is used to move inmates and others who need urgent medical care, and its breakdown had raised questions about how the prison would cope with emergencies involving inmates and officers.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh said he had promised during the earlier visit to help and had come back to keep his word. He described the support as part of his duty as an MP to back public institutions in his constituency.

"A key one among them is the fact that the ambulance facility has been grounded. It is unacceptable. In the case of an emergency, it will be a problem," he said.

He said he hoped the money would allow the authorities to deal with the vehicle's mechanical problems and restore it to service.

The MP noted, however, that the ambulance was just one of a number of issues at the prison. He said the facility lacks its own health centre, a gap he believes needs serious attention to improve care for both inmates and staff.

He said talks on the matter were already under way and that he was waiting for architectural drawings before deciding on next steps.

"They do not have a dedicated health centre. We have started discussions," he said.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh also announced plans to refurbish the residential quarters used by prison officers. He acknowledged that because the prison is a designated security zone, any construction or renovation would need the proper security clearances and approvals.

He therefore urged the prison's command to engage the Minister for the Interior and officials at the Ghana Prisons Service headquarters so the required processes can be completed and the projects can proceed. He said he was ready to do more for the institution and hoped the authorities would cooperate.

The cheque was received by Deputy Director of Prisons Patrick Thomas Seidu, who is the Eastern Regional Commander and Officer in Charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons.

DDP Seidu and other prison officials thanked the MP for responding to their concerns and for fulfilling the pledge he made during his earlier visit.
