The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally opened the 2026 edition of the Stanbic Asantehene Invitational Golf Tournament, with 64 golfers lining up for this year's contest.

The monarch, together with members of his entourage, launched the competition on Saturday, 7 November 2026, by playing a three-player game across four holes, as first reported by Citi News.

According to the report, the Asantehene has taken part in the annual tournament for more than a decade. Citi News described this as a reflection of his long-standing ties to the event and of his confidence in the bank behind it.

The field for this year's edition was made up of Stanbic Bank customers, members of the Royal Golf Club and guest players drawn from other recognised golf clubs.

On the sidelines of the opening, the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Kwamina Asomaning, urged the development of new financial tools that would help people and businesses in Ghana reach international markets without the challenges that come with obtaining foreign currency.

He revealed that the bank is getting ready to launch a product that will let Ghanaians buy goods, bring in imports and settle payments for services in China using the Ghana cedi.

Mr Asomaning explained that the planned service would allow customers to deal with Chinese businesses from their own homes, without the need to first obtain Chinese Yuan.

"As a financial institution, our primary mandate is to help businesses achieve their financial goals," he said in an interview with OTEC fm during the opening session of the tournament.

The bank did not give a launch date for the new product in the remarks reported.
