Attorney General Confident of Securing Convictions in NSB Fraud Case

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has expressed strong confidence in achieving convictions against the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, and his wife, Mildred Donkor. The couple faces 11 criminal charges related to financial crimes, as detailed in an official charge sheet.

Addressing the media, Dr. Ayine praised the thorough investigations conducted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) under the leadership of Mr. Raymond Archer. Dr. Ayine cited the availability of robust documentary evidence such as bank statements, deposit slips, and cheque numbers, along with key witnesses ready to testify at trial, as the basis for his confidence in securing convictions.

Emerging Fraudulent Schemes

Further investigations have uncovered fraudulent activities involving the former NSB chief and his wife. Reports revealed that Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has made monthly payments totalling GH¢1.3 million to Kwabena Adu-Boahene’s accounts. These transactions were allegedly disguised under an internet provision contract with NSB, raising suspicions of public fund misuse.

The Attorney General noted that these payments had been ongoing for several months without a legitimate service link to Adu-Boahene or NSB. His office is examining the contract details, which appear fabricated to justify the suspicious transactions.

With ties to several high-profile figures, the embattled former NSB Director-General remains under intense scrutiny for various financial irregularities.

Dr. Ayine remains optimistic about the outcomes of the legal proceedings, stating, “The diligent investigations by EOCO, led by Mr. Raymond Archer, give me confidence that I will obtain convictions on most of the charges I have preferred today.”
