Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif says the idea for his hit song “Top of the Morning” came to him unexpectedly while he was alone with his thoughts, showing just how organic his creative process can be. He revealed in a recent interview that the melody and lyrics formed in his mind over a quiet morning, without any pressure or external influence.
Black Sherif explained that on that day, he woke up with a tune lingering in his head, and before he knew it, he had a rough version of several verses in mind. He was so struck by the moment he grabbed his phone and recorded voice notes, capturing the raw emotion and mental spark that would later evolve into the final track.
He noted that many artists wait for inspiration, but for him, “Top of the Morning” didn’t need forcing — it just flowed. Working independently and with minimal production at first, he pieced together his music in solitude, allowing his creativity to breathe freely without distractions. This, he said, is where his best work is born.
Black Sherif also reflected on how the song resonated with his fans, especially those who face hardship and are searching for hope. He believes part of its success lies in its vulnerability and authenticity — listeners who feel lost or broken said the song touched them deeply, and that feedback reinforced his belief in staying true to himself.
He emphasized that staying humble has always been his guiding principle. Despite the fame that came with his breakout success, he said he will always honour moments of solitude and serenity, because they are where his greatest ideas often begin.
