Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warmly expressed his appreciation following the successful organization of the Extraordinary National Delegates Conference held on July 19 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Arriving in a distinguished NPP-themed agbada and escorted by uniformed security personnel, Chairman Wontumi acknowledged the commitment and tireless efforts of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) in ensuring the smooth hosting of the event. Speaking to journalists, he emphasized the significant financial and logistical resources required and thanked all contributors who supported the conference’s realization.
“We give thanks to God and express our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed financially to make this programme possible. Organising such an event requires both hard work and significant resources, and we deeply appreciate the support we received,” he stated. Additionally, he commended the National Council of the party for their dedication and tenacity in overcoming challenges to host the conference effectively.
Despite the focus on the conference, Chairman Wontumi remains under public scrutiny due to ongoing legal investigations initiated earlier this year. In May, he became subject to a high-profile probe concerning allegations of fraud, financial loss to the state, and money laundering, as disclosed by Ghana’s Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) first summoned Mr. Boasiako in connection to alleged illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey. His cooperation extended to a subsequent questioning by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), which detained and later released him on bail in June.
Despite these legal challenges, Chairman Wontumi continues to play an active role in party politics, demonstrating resilience and commitment to his mandate within the NPP. The conference itself marks a significant event for the party as it strengthens its internal cohesion and prepares for future political engagements.
