Ghana Armed Forces Intensify Operations to Restore Order in Bawku

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) are ramping up their efforts to support civil authorities in maintaining law and order in Bawku and its surrounding areas. This comes in response to ongoing clashes and sporadic gunfire. The measures were detailed in a statement released on April 21, signed by Brigadier Aggrey-Quashie.

The GAF has been conducting comprehensive cordon and search operations to restore peace and strengthen security. On the morning of April 21, 2025, troops stationed in Binduri responded promptly to sporadic gunshots heard near the Binduri Central Market. They swiftly secured the area before conducting thorough search operations with the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, assisted by the Police. This led to the arrest of a suspected gunman, who was handed over to the Police for further investigation.

During these operations, the troops seized an array of items including an empty M16 rifle magazine, an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition, 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, a machete, four fragmentation jackets, a pair of boots, and a helmet.

Later in the day, military personnel thwarted an infiltration attempt by unknown gunmen in Binduri. A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the gunmen fleeing the scene.

The GAF assures the public that the situation is now under control, and their forces remain vigilant to counter any arising threats. In collaboration with other security agencies, they remain committed to ensuring peace in Bawku. They call on local residents and the broader community to support these efforts to restore normalcy.
