Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry Reveals GH¢105 Billion Road Sector Obligations Left by Former Government

The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry has brought to light significant financial commitments amounting to GH¢105 billion in the road sector, left by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. Emmanuel Cherry, the CEO of the chamber, detailed that this figure represents the total value of road and infrastructure contracts awarded by the former administration, many of which were not completed before they left office.

During a recent ministerial vetting session for the new Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, it was initially reported that the commitments stood at GH¢100 billion, with only GH¢20 to GH¢25 billion in available funds. However, Cherry clarified that the actual obligations came to light following the release of the 2025 Budget, indicating a total of GH¢105 billion.

Cherry revealed that of this total, projects worth GH¢21 billion have been executed by contractors. He emphasized the urgent necessity for the government to release this amount so that contractors can maintain liquidity and continue their work.

“Our contractors need the government to release GH¢21 billion promptly to ensure they can resume their tasks,” Cherry stressed.
