Ghana is set to officially launch its much-anticipated 24-Hour Economy Policy on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, as part of a bold initiative to accelerate economic growth, boost productivity, and generate employment across key sectors.
The Technical Committee leading the policy rollout presented the finalized document to Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, during a formal session at Parliament House.
Policy Anchored on Three Core Pillars
According to Augustus Obuadum Tannoh, head of the delegation, the policy framework is grounded on three strategic anchors:
-
Production Transformation
-
Supply Chain and Market Efficiency
-
Human Capital Development
These pillars are further supported by eight thematic sub-programs designed to activate various sectors of the economy around the clock.
The 8 Sub-Programs Unveiled
The sub-programs, as outlined by Mr. Tannoh, include:
-
Grow24 – Focused on transforming agriculture
-
Make24 – Targeted at boosting manufacturing
-
Connect24 – Enhancing supply chain logistics
-
Aspire24 – A mindset shift initiative aimed at reshaping work culture and public sector productivity
Other components include creative arts promotion, export capacity enhancement, and cultural identity projection—positioning Ghana’s unique heritage as a vital economic resource.
“We must rewire the Ghanaian worker and public system towards discipline, skills, and purpose. Aspire24 will help reset national values for productivity,” said Mr. Tannoh.
Bagbin Endorses the Policy, Calls for National Unity
Speaker Bagbin praised the initiative, calling it a transformative national agenda that must be embraced by all political parties and sectors.
“We must stop viewing this through partisan or religious lenses. This is a national program. After the launch, Parliament must be given the opportunity to debate and officially approve it,” he asserted.
He commended the Mahama-led government for turning a campaign promise into a concrete policy and urged Parliament to play a proactive role in ensuring its successful implementation.
Launch by President Mahama
The official launch event will be led by President John Dramani Mahama, who is expected to outline the operational framework and sector-specific roadmaps under the Accelerated Export Development Program.
The policy is anticipated to introduce a three-shift working system in critical areas like agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare, with the goal of making 24/7 economic activity a national norm.
With Ghana poised to activate a truly round-the-clock economy, the 24-hour policy could mark a turning point in job creation, export performance, and national productivity—if effectively implemented and widely supported.
