Edward Abambire Bawa, the Managing Director of GOIL PLC, has called for a fair and transparent issuance of fuel import permits to foster national development in Ghana. Speaking on the importance of equitable distribution of import licenses, he emphasized that ensuring a level playing field among industry players would contribute significantly to stabilizing the fuel supply chain and supporting the country’s economic progress.
According to Mr. Bawa, the current method of allocating fuel import permits requires reform so that both large and small-scale importers can access opportunities fairly. This inclusivity, he argues, will promote healthy competition, reduce fuel price volatility, and mitigate supply disruptions that negatively impact consumers and businesses alike.
Furthermore, the GOIL MD highlighted the need for collaborative efforts between government regulators and private sector stakeholders to develop policies that encourage responsible business practices and transparency in the fuel market. Such cooperation, he believes, is vital for strengthening Ghana’s energy sector resilience and meeting the growing demand for petroleum products.
Increased access to import permits would not only benefit importers but also support national GDP growth by ensuring consistent fuel availability, which is crucial for transportation, industry, and daily activities. By advocating for fair permit distribution, GOIL aims to contribute to national economic stability and sustainable development.
