Nine civilians who were hurt in disturbances after a deadly explosion at Hamile, in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region, have been treated and allowed to leave hospital, according to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

In total, 11 civilians were injured. The two who still need care have been moved to the Upper West Regional Hospital for further treatment.

The update came from Chief Superintendent Mohammed Abdul Manan, who commands the GIS Hamile Sector. He gave the figures when the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu, visited the command, as first reported by Citi News.

The explosion happened on an unapproved route at a place known as Mountain Back Two in Hamile. Three people died: two civilians and one immigration officer.

A second immigration officer was injured in the blast. That officer was airlifted to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for treatment.

According to the report, Mr Amadu's visit had three aims. He wanted to work with community stakeholders to help bring calm back to the area. He also wanted to check on the welfare of immigration personnel and raise their morale after the incident.

During the trip, the Comptroller-General met the Upper West Regional Security Council in Wa. He also held talks with the Border Security Committee, and with traditional leaders and youth groups in Hamile. In addition, he met officers at the sector command.

Mr Amadu also visited the families of the two civilians who died. He then went to the site of the explosion.

The report did not say what caused the explosion. It also gave no further details of the disturbances that followed it.
