Interior Minister Strengthens NACOC with New Vehicle Fleet

In a significant move to bolster the capabilities of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, officially presented a fleet of ten Nissan Navara pick-up trucks. This handover, which took place on February 2, 2026, aims to enhance NACOC’s efforts in addressing the growing challenges of drug trafficking and related illicit activities.

During the ceremony, Minister Muntaka emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to equipping security agencies with necessary resources. He noted that these vehicles are essential for improving mobility and response times, especially as drug-related crimes become more complex and pervasive throughout the nation.

“The evolving nature of the drug trade demands that we adapt our strategies,” Muntaka stated. He highlighted that tramadol now represents 23% of the substances seized, with the remaining 77% comprising a diverse array of other psychotropic drugs. This data underscores the importance of NACOC’s proactive measures, particularly during peak seasons for drug trafficking.

Muntaka’s address reiterated the government’s strategic initiative to enhance national security by fortifying law enforcement agencies like NACOC. He stressed that providing essential logistical support is crucial for ensuring timely and effective operations against organized crime.
