On January 14, 2026, John Dumelo, the Member of Parliament representing the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, took swift action to assist commuters facing transportation challenges in Accra. He personally funded transport fares for those traveling towards Lapaz, alleviating the difficulties many faced due to a recent scarcity of available transport options.
In a video that quickly gained traction on social media platform X, Dumelo explained that his initiative targeted commuters from Okponglo to Lapaz and those traveling from Shiashie to Madina. He characterized this effort as a temporary fix to the urgent transportation issues plaguing the area.
Dumelo stated, “I organized and paid for all commuters this evening headed to Lapaz from Okponglo and also Shiashie to Madina,” emphasizing that he was committed to finding a more sustainable resolution to these ongoing transportation challenges.
He expressed gratitude to Metro Mass Transit for their support in providing buses for this initiative, thanking them for their cooperation. This gesture was well-received by the public, with many commuters expressing their relief and appreciation for the assistance during a time of significant transport shortages.
The situation in Accra has been particularly dire during peak hours, forcing many to pay inflated and unofficial fares. Dumelo’s intervention not only provided immediate relief but also highlighted the pressing need for a comprehensive strategy to improve public transport in the region.
As he continues to work on long-term solutions, Dumelo’s actions serve as a reminder of the critical role that public representatives play in addressing community needs.
