Kennedy Agyapong Emerges as Top NPP Presidential Hopeful, Says Nyantakyi

In a significant endorsement for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former President of the Ghana Football Association, has declared that businessman and politician Kennedy Ohene Agyapong stands out as the most credible candidate for the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 presidential elections.

Agyapong, who has served for 24 years as a Member of Parliament, is currently vying for the NPP’s nomination among a competitive field that includes notable figures such as former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ex-Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

Nyantakyi emphasized that Agyapong’s relatively minimal ties to the previous NPP administration, which faced criticism after the December 2024 elections, make him a more appealing candidate. He pointed out that the other contenders were involved in the past government’s leadership, which could hinder their chances due to public sentiment regarding its performance.

“Kennedy Agyapong has a cleaner slate compared to the rest,” Nyantakyi remarked, underlining that Agyapong’s independent stance allows voters to connect with him more easily. He highlighted Agyapong’s unique ability to resonate with various demographics, including youth and non-party members, suggesting that his charisma has broad appeal.

According to Nyantakyi, Agyapong’s unconventional approach and unyielding courage set him apart in the political landscape. He described Agyapong as a politician who is not only likable but also honest and empathetic, attributes that have been showcased through his philanthropic efforts.

Furthermore, Nyantakyi noted that Agyapong’s campaign is heavily focused on addressing the pressing issue of unemployment in Ghana, a challenge that remains critical for the nation. “He is the only candidate whose platform primarily addresses job creation,” he stated, reinforcing Agyapong’s commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.

As the race for the NPP flagbearer heats up, the insights from Nyantakyi may significantly influence voter perception and candidate positioning leading into the 2028 elections.
