The arrest of three key suspects linked to the murder of a Kusasi chief in Asawase, located in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has gripped the nation. Following an intense, intelligence-led operation, the police have successfully detained the individuals who were on the run for several months.
The suspects, identified as Jamil Usman (alias Babamu or Guru), Suleman Yasir Arafat (alias Obasanjo), and Ashaidu Sumbieda (alias Eyeshadow), are currently in police custody. They are expected to be transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command where further investigations will be conducted to unravel the details surrounding the murder.
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a substantial cache of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, two pistols, 44 rounds of .32 ammunition, and 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition. This discovery underscores the seriousness of the crime and the potential threat posed by the suspects.
The police are still on the hunt for one key suspect, Illiasu (alias ‘Abodam’), who remains at large. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to locate him, and they suspect that more individuals could be involved in the crime, indicating a potentially wider criminal network.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command, under the leadership of DCOP Joseph Nyaaba, has issued a statement highlighting the success of intelligence-led operations. DCOP Nyaaba assured the public of the police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards armed crime and the illegal possession of firearms.
In addition to the arrests related to the Kusasi chief’s murder, the operation also led to the capture of nine other individuals linked to unrelated offenses. These suspects have already been remanded, showcasing the police’s broader effort to clamp down on crime in the region.
The arrests have been met with relief and praise from residents in Kumasi, who have called for the officers involved in the successful operation to be duly recognized for their efforts. This public reaction reflects the community’s growing trust in the police force’s ability to tackle crime effectively.
As the investigation continues, the arrests represent a pivotal moment in the high-profile murder case, bringing hope for justice and closure to the family and community affected by the tragic loss of the Kusasi chief. The police remain vigilant in their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and dismantle any associated criminal networks.
