The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has taken significant steps to bolster security on campus as the new academic year approaches. In a proactive measure, the university has collaborated with the Ghana Police Service to enhance safety protocols, ensuring a smooth transition for students and their families.
According to Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, the Public Relations Officer of KNUST, this initiative is a direct response to the disorder experienced during previous academic year openings. The university aims to create a secure environment that protects both its reputation and the well-being of its community.
Dr. Bekoe emphasized that the security personnel have been meticulously stationed at critical points around the campus, including entryways, residence halls, and main thoroughfares. This strategic positioning is intended to maintain order and deter any potential criminal activity.
“Historically, the reopening period has been fraught with congestion and incidents that could compromise safety,” Dr. Bekoe stated. “We recognize our responsibility to safeguard our students and their families. This year, we are also implementing measures at the international airport to assist students arriving from abroad, ensuring they are safely escorted to campus.”
The university is committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment as it welcomes back students for the new academic year.
