The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) has taken significant steps to alleviate the ongoing water crisis that has disrupted educational activities at the institution. In a recent commissioning event, they unveiled a newly constructed water reservoir aimed at addressing the persistent issues caused by inconsistent water supply from Ghana Water Limited (GWL).
Students at KTI have faced considerable challenges due to intermittent water shortages, leading to missed classroom time and reduced focus during lessons. Recognizing the detrimental impact of this situation on academic performance, the PTA decided to take matters into their own hands by introducing a reliable water source.
At the ceremony, PTA Chairman Lowdford Acheamfuor expressed the urgency of the situation, noting that the absence of water not only hampers students’ ability to concentrate but also affects their overall attendance. He urged local authorities to provide further support, highlighting the need for improved classroom infrastructure. “Our classrooms are in dire need of about 2,000 new chairs to replace the broken ones and accommodate all students properly,” Acheamfuor stated.
Narcisse Kodjo Dablah, the Ashanti Regional Auditor representing the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority, expressed his appreciation for the PTA’s initiative. He assured the audience that the newly established facility would be maintained effectively and encouraged other stakeholders to follow suit in supporting educational infrastructure.
This development marks a crucial step towards ensuring that students at Kumasi Technical Institute can pursue their studies without the added burden of water shortages, paving the way for a more conducive learning environment.
