Popular Kumawood actor, Yaw Dabo, has voiced his dissatisfaction with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and the Ghana Education Service (GES) regarding their lack of support for Suzzy Pinamang, a student at Bantama Adventist Senior High School. Suzzy tragically lost her sight following a school shooting incident.
In March 2025, Suzzy was accidentally shot in the face by a fellow student who was showing off his father’s gun. Although she received some initial treatment, she unfortunately experienced a gradual loss of eyesight.
During his visit to the Pinamang family, Yaw Dabo passionately appealed for urgent action to send Suzzy abroad for specialized treatment, which might restore her vision. He expressed his frustration, stating, “It pains me that the Minister of Education and GES have not reacted swiftly to this crisis. If such an incident occurred overseas, authorities would have promptly intervened. Here, we’re left pleading while a young girl suffers.”
Dabo also pointed out broader systemic issues within Ghana’s education sector: “The state of education in this country is dismal. Our children aren’t receiving quality education. Even after completing their studies, they struggle to find jobs, and those who do secure jobs face inadequate pay.”
He specifically directed his plea to Haruna Iddrisu, urging, “Honorable, I know you’re a man of integrity. Please assist this young girl in obtaining the urgent medical care she needs.”
Additionally, Yaw Dabo called on influential figures like Shatta Wale, Nana Aba Anamoah, Nana Ama McBrown, and Delay to support the campaign for Suzzy’s medical evacuation.
