Legal Expert Urges Appeal Against Reduced Sentence for Agradaa

In a recent broadcast, legal expert and journalist Samson Lardy Anyenini has voiced strong opposition to the reduced prison sentence of Patricia Asiedua, also known as Agradaa. The evangelist’s sentence was significantly cut from 15 years to just one, a decision that Anyenini claims undermines the state’s obligation to protect its citizens.

During his appearance on JoyNews’ NewsFile on February 7, 2026, Anyenini criticized the Attorney General for what he perceives as inaction following this controversial ruling. He argued that the Attorney General should promptly appeal the sentence reduction in order to uphold the integrity of the judicial system. “The state must not simply accept a diminished sentence; it is imperative to seek a reversal through the Court of Appeal,” he asserted.

Anyenini highlighted that the presiding judge had confirmed the validity of Agradaa’s conviction, indicating that the circuit court made no errors in its judgment. He expressed confusion over the rationale behind the dramatic reduction in her sentence, especially considering the legal limits on misdemeanour and felony sentences.

According to Anyenini, Agradaa was convicted on charges that included a misdemeanour and a second-degree felony, which under previous legal standards, carry maximum penalties of 10 years. He warned that the lack of an appeal would not only send a troubling message to the public but also risk eroding trust in the criminal justice system.

“If the state does not act, it conveys a failure to protect the public from individuals who exploit others, particularly in spiritual contexts,” Anyenini remarked. He further cautioned against the dangers of selective justice, arguing that high-profile offenders often receive leniency while less affluent individuals face harsh consequences for minor infractions. “It’s time for the Attorney General to intervene and restore the strength of our legal system,” he concluded.
