In a statement made while attending to official duties abroad, Mr. Ayariga addressed the tragic loss of lives and injuries resulting from the unrest. His own residence was vandalized in an attempted arson attack. “While on an official assignment outside the country, I learned about the fatal confrontations between the police and the youth in Bawku, including the vandalism and attempted burning of my private residence,” he stated.

Mr. Ayariga acknowledged the frustration among the youth due to the prolonged Bawku and Kusaug chieftaincy conflict and allegations of misconduct by some security officers. He expressed his condolences to the victims and urged calm. “I understand the youth’s frustration over the unresolved situation in Bawku and Kusaug, as well as the misconduct by certain law enforcement officials. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is committed to ensuring justice and lasting peace. My condolences to the bereaved and sympathies to the injured.”

The MP emphasized his support for ongoing peace efforts led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, with significant involvement from regional traditional authorities. “I urge everyone to remain committed to the peace process led by His Majesty, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Highlighting the importance of legal and constitutional adherence, Mr. Ayariga assured Bawku and Kusaug residents of his dedication to a durable resolution aligned with Ghana’s laws and judicial decisions. “I want to assure the people of Bawku and Kusaug of my steadfast commitment to resolving the matter according to Ghana’s established laws and judicial decisions, which must be respected and enforced.”
