The Ghana Police Service has made a crucial arrest in connection with a significant armed robbery that took place at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, resulting in the loss of GH¢7.5 million. The suspect, known as Ali Mohammed, or ‘Bawasam,’ was taken into custody on November 20, 2025, while he was receiving medical care at a hospital in Ashaiman.
During a press briefing held in Accra on December 31, 2025, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, highlighted the arrest as a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation into the high-profile robbery that occurred on November 2, 2024.
According to initial findings from the police, Mohammed allegedly collaborated with several accomplices, who remain at large, to intercept a vehicle transporting cash from a jewellery sale to a nearby bank. Witnesses reported that the assailants, armed with AK-47 rifles, discharged multiple rounds into the air to intimidate bystanders, resulting in injuries to the vehicle’s driver.
Following the attack, the robbers fled the scene with substantial amounts of cash, prompting a nationwide manhunt for the remaining suspects. DCOP Donkor urged citizens to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation and assist in recovering the stolen money.
The brazen daylight robbery, which took place in the bustling Adabraka Market, left many community members in shock. Eyewitness accounts described masked individuals, approximately four in number, who targeted a man in a red Toyota Corolla parked near the market. The robbers fired into the air to disperse the crowd before forcibly entering the vehicle and seizing large sacks of cash.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focused on capturing the remaining suspects and ensuring that justice is served for this audacious crime.
