Nana Akomeah Clarifies NPP’s Decision to Deny Kufuor’s Request to Postpone National Delegates Conference

Deny Kufuor's request to postpone national delegates conference

Kufuor’s Plea Met with Logistical Hurdles

Nana Akomeah, Vice Chairman of the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, has shed light on the NPP’s decision to deny Kufuor’s request to postpone national delegates conference, originally slated for Saturday, July 19, 2025. The request came from former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who wished to attend but had prior commitments abroad.

At 86 years old, Kufuor emphasized his continued relevance to party activities and requested the conference be pushed to late August—timing his return to Ghana. He also expressed concerns about feeling increasingly sidelined in the party’s affairs due to his age.

Party Leadership Acts on Short Notice Request

Following the petition, the party’s National Council held an emergency meeting to evaluate the feasibility of rescheduling. Nana Akomeah explained that the request came at a time when all major plans had already been finalized. “It was late. Preparations for the conference had reached an advanced stage,” he stated.

The event, expected to bring together over 6,000 delegates nationwide, had already been organized down to critical details. The venue—University of Ghana Sports Stadium—had been officially booked, and delegate accommodation was secured at UPSA and Valley View University. Payments had been made for both lodging and other logistics, locking the party into its original schedule.

Venue and Accommodations Finalized

Akomeah pointed out that postponing the event would jeopardize the availability of secured facilities and complicate logistics. Rescheduling such a large gathering would also incur additional costs and logistical uncertainty.

Despite former President Kufuor’s stature, the party had to balance respect for his legacy with the broader requirements of organizing a national-scale event. Akomeah emphasized that the party holds Kufuor in high esteem, but the conference must go ahead as planned.

Conference Will Proceed as Scheduled

With logistical challenges too great to overcome, the NPP confirmed that the national delegates conference will proceed on 19th July 2025. This decision reflects the party’s emphasis on discipline and thorough planning.
