The Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands (OASL) is set to initiate the creation of 300 Customary Land Secretariats (CLSs) across the nation starting in 2026. This initiative aims to enhance the management of customary land in accordance with the Land Act of 2020, also known as Act 1036.
Mr. Gad Asorwoe Akwensivie, the Acting Administrator of Stool Lands, emphasized that this strategic move is expected to generate approximately 6,000 employment opportunities. The new secretariats are designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of land administration, ensuring that customary lands are governed in a manner that aligns with contemporary legal frameworks.
This development is part of a broader effort to modernize land management practices in Ghana, ultimately benefiting local communities and stakeholders involved in land use and ownership. By establishing these secretariats, the OASL aims to foster sustainable land management practices while adhering to the provisions laid out in the Land Act.
