The Nigerian government has initiated an investigation into a decade-old social media post by popular singer Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, known as Simi, which has recently sparked widespread public scrutiny.
The controversy revolves around a tweet from 2012 in which Simi recounted an encounter with a four-year-old boy named David, who she claimed exhibited affectionate behavior towards her. The post detailed how the child appeared to want to kiss her and rested his head in her lap. Following the tweet’s resurgence, it was met with significant backlash, leading to discussions about the implications of such narratives involving minors.
In response to the growing public concern regarding potential child exploitation, the Nigerian National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) announced on February 24, 2026, that it will investigate the matter thoroughly. The agency emphasized its dedication to addressing any credible allegations of misconduct, particularly in light of recent reports of inappropriate behavior in daycare environments within Nigeria.
“We are committed to investigating credible reports related to allegations of child sexual abuse or misconduct,” NAPTIP stated. They further encouraged individuals with relevant information or personal experiences related to the incidents mentioned in the viral post to come forward confidentially.
This development reflects a broader societal concern over child safety and the responsibilities of public figures in discussing sensitive topics. As the investigation unfolds, Simi’s comments and the public’s reaction continue to highlight the complexities surrounding discussions of childhood and celebrity interactions.
