In a significant development in Kumasi, the Ghana Police Service has apprehended Nana Anderson, identified as the ringleader of a well-known car theft syndicate operating in the Ashanti Region. According to an official police statement released on April 11 and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng from the Public Affairs Unit in the Accra Region, the 37-year-old suspect has been known to operate under several aliases, including Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis, and Wilson Kojo Bismark.
Nana Anderson was captured on April 5, 2025, at his hideout in Atasemanso, a notable suburb of Kumasi. Investigations revealed that on March 25, 2025, Anderson fraudulently rented a Hyundai Elantra, registered as GT-114-25, through a car rental partner linked to the complainant. By using forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards bearing different names but featuring his photograph, he successfully deceived the car owner into handing over the vehicle at Community 25. The situation escalated when Anderson failed to return the car and disabled its tracking system, prompting suspicions and the subsequent police action.
Authorities are also in pursuit of a second suspect, Gideon Baah, who remains at large. The police have launched a manhunt to ensure Baah’s capture, according to the statement.
