The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing for its crucial flagbearer primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, with a strong commitment to uphold transparency and fairness throughout the electoral process. General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong made this declaration in his New Year address to party delegates, emphasizing the importance of unity in the face of internal competition.
Frimpong acknowledged that while the upcoming contest for the presidential nomination may be intense, the party is dedicated to ensuring that elections are conducted freely and transparently. He stated, “Our leadership is unwavering in its promise to conduct free and fair elections, not only for the flagbearer position but for all internal party elections.”
Reflecting on past challenges, including setbacks in previous elections, he noted the NPP’s resilience and ability to emerge stronger after difficulties. “We have faced adversity before, and each time we have come back united and more robust. This instance will be no exception,” he remarked.
In light of the party’s loss in the 2024 elections, Frimpong outlined several strategic initiatives aimed at revitalizing the NPP. These measures include scheduling the presidential primaries before other internal elections, amending the party’s constitution to fill existing gaps, launching the Patriotic Institute, and revamping the membership drive along with a more efficient dues payment platform.
Despite the anticipated challenges in 2026, Frimpong assured party members that with strong leadership support, they will navigate these hurdles. He highlighted key activities planned for the year, including the presidential primaries, the election of party officers, and efforts aimed at reconciliation and unity within the ranks of the NPP.
Additionally, he praised the party’s Minority in Parliament for their steadfastness in protecting the party’s values during tough times. He expressed gratitude to all party members, from polling station executives to constituency leaders, for their unwavering support and encouraged them to find strength in the spirit of renewal that the recent Christmas season brings.
In conclusion, Frimpong called on all Ghanaians to join in a collective journey towards peace, progress, and unity, reaffirming the NPP’s dedication to serving the nation with integrity and a clear vision for the future.
