During a recent church service, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the founder of Glorious Word Power Ministries, expressed his admiration for President John Dramani Mahama, particularly praising his humble demeanor. This statement came on January 4, 2025, as he addressed his congregation, urging them to support Mahama in his leadership role.
Owusu-Bempah highlighted a specific incident in which Mahama chose to sit among regular churchgoers instead of occupying a reserved presidential seat. He remarked on the significance of this act, saying, “It is a testament to his humility and approachability. He does not place himself above others, but rather stands with the people.”
In a pointed remark, the pastor contrasted Mahama’s behavior with that of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who had faced criticism for demanding that traditional leaders stand to greet him during public appearances. Although he did not name Akufo-Addo directly, Owusu-Bempah’s comments suggested a dissatisfaction with the previous administration’s attitude towards authority and respect.
“This is what we call humility. He does not make himself or think of himself more highly than he ought to. He wouldn’t say to you, ‘stand on your feet before you greet me,’” Owusu-Bempah remarked, emphasizing the importance of humility in leadership.
Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among some Ghanaians who appreciate a more relatable and humble approach from their leaders. The pastor’s expressions of support for Mahama come as the former president continues to engage with the public, focusing on his vision for the country.
As discussions around the leadership styles of Ghana’s recent presidents continue, Owusu-Bempah’s remarks resonate with those advocating for a more people-centered governance approach.
