The Ghana Police Service has taken decisive action against a suspected armed robber linked to a recent violent attack on the Atebubu–Ejura highway. This operation, which resulted in the suspect’s death, underscores the ongoing efforts by the police to combat highway robberies in the region.

On March 18, 2026, a targeted anti-crime operation was conducted in Ejura, within the Ashanti Region. Led by the Police Intelligence Directorate, the operation focused on apprehending individuals involved in the highway robbery incident that occurred on March 14, 2026. During this earlier attack, armed men assaulted travelers on the Atebubu–Ejura highway, resulting in injuries to at least one female passenger.

The suspect, identified as Amadu, also known by the alias ‘Manu,’ was shot during the police operation. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The police recovered a firearm, five live cartridges, a mobile phone, and cash amounting to GH¢200 from the deceased suspect.

This operation is part of a broader initiative to dismantle the gang responsible for a series of highway robberies in the region. The police have pledged to continue their pursuit of other gang members, intensifying patrols on highways and major roads to safeguard travelers against such violent crimes.

Authorities emphasize that the crackdown on highway crimes is crucial to ensuring the safety and security of road users across the Ashanti Region. By stepping up operations and maintaining a visible presence on major roadways, the police aim to deter criminal activities and reassure the public of their commitment to law enforcement.

This latest development highlights the ongoing struggle between law enforcement agencies and organized criminal groups operating in the area. The Ghana Police Service’s proactive measures demonstrate their dedication to eradicating highway robbery syndicates and restoring order on the nation’s roads.

As investigations continue, the police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities. Community cooperation is deemed vital in the fight against crime, and the police are committed to working alongside local residents to ensure a safer environment for all.
