Presidency Concludes Ghana Gold Board Gifting Controversy Involving Sammy Gyamfi

The Presidency has officially closed the book on the gifting controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. A statement confirmed that no further disciplinary action will be taken beyond a caution and his issued apology.

In a press briefing held on Wednesday, May 14th, Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu reported that the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has addressed the issue, which had drawn substantial public scrutiny.

Kwakye Ofosu stated, “Given the Chief of Staff’s handling of the matter, the Presidency believes no further action is warranted beyond the apology and the caution.”

The controversy erupted after a viral video surfaced, showing Gyamfi giving a cash gift to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa. The incident sparked a public outcry, prompting government intervention.

Kwakye Ofosu explained that the Chief of Staff acknowledged Gyamfi’s apology and advised him to be more mindful of public sentiment going forward.

“While certain behaviors might be acceptable in personal settings, public office requires a higher standard of ethics,” said Kwakye Ofosu, emphasizing the importance of aligning actions with public expectations.

He reiterated the government’s dedication to maintaining integrity within public service, underscoring the necessity of transparency and accountability. “We are attentive to the expectations of Ghanaians regarding our conduct as public officials,” he assured.
