Prophet Faces Backlash After Failed Election Prophecy in Ghana

In the wake of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has publicly criticized Prophet Elbernard Nelson-Eshun for his inaccurate prophecy regarding the election outcome. Azure’s comments came shortly after the results were announced, which contradicted the prophet’s predictions.

Before the elections, Prophet Elbernard had confidently declared that Kennedy Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, would win the primaries, a claim he attributed to divine revelation. He even went so far as to tell Agyapong during a church gathering that an angel had revealed to him the significance of the number associated with Agyapong during the balloting process.

However, the election results saw Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President of Ghana, emerging as the clear victor with 110,645 votes, accounting for 56.48% of the total. Agyapong trailed significantly with 46,554 votes (23.76%), followed by Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

In response to the failed prophecy, Manasseh Azure took to social media with a post that read, “God does not lie,” showcasing a picture of the prophet. This statement reflected the disappointment felt by many who had placed their trust in Elbernard’s prophetic claims.

Following the backlash, Prophet Elbernard issued a public apology via Facebook, admitting his error and expressing deep remorse for the impact of his inaccurate prediction. He acknowledged that his public assertions had significant emotional, spiritual, and political consequences, and he took full responsibility for the fallout. “I sincerely apologize to everyone who trusted my word and was hurt or disappointed,” he stated.

The prophet recognized the gravity of his declarations and stated, “This experience has prompted me to reflect on how I communicate prophetic revelations in the future.”

As the dust settles from the primaries, Dr. Bawumia’s victory positions him as the NPP’s flagbearer for the upcoming general elections in 2028, while Prophet Elbernard’s reputation takes a hit due to his failed prophecy.
