Professor Charles Ofosu Marfo, a former leader of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has voiced his opinion on recent remarks made by Rev Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South. Professor Marfo suggests that Fordjour’s comments might be driven by political ambitions rather than a genuine focus on critical educational issues.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV on April 10, 2025, Professor Marfo expressed skepticism over Fordjour’s motives. He questioned why the MP, given his past role in the education sector, chose to emphasize allegations of government involvement in cocaine smuggling instead of addressing pressing educational matters like the school feeding program.
“Rev Ntim Fordjour seems to be following a path similar to others who have risen to high political positions. As a former Deputy Minister of Education, it would be expected for him to comment on educational challenges,” Professor Marfo noted.
This discussion arose after Fordjour held a press conference on April 1, 2025, raising suspicions of potential drug trafficking or money laundering involving an air ambulance and a private jet. Fordjour claimed that one aircraft, Air MED flight L823 AM, suspiciously stayed in Ghana for five days without any medical patients on board.
In reaction to these allegations, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered all security agencies to coordinate with the MP to thoroughly investigate the claims. He reiterated Ghana’s zero-tolerance policy on drug trafficking and underscored the importance of maintaining the country’s integrity.
President Mahama urged relevant agencies to ensure transparency and diligently uncover any illicit activities linked to the flights in question.
