Rare Glimpse into the Asantehene’s Family Life
A recently shared photo of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with two of his children has captivated Ghanaians on social media. The image, which includes his daughter Oheneba Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem and son Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, provides a rare and intimate look into the personal life of the revered Ashanti king.
A Monarch of Legacy and Leadership
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, born Nana Barima Kwaku Duah on May 6, 1950, ascended the Golden Stool as the 16th Asantehene in 1999, following the death of his predecessor and senior brother, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II. His enstoolment took place on April 26, 1999, marking the beginning of a reign known for both cultural preservation and national influence.
More Than a Traditional Leader
In addition to his role as the spiritual and traditional head of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo also contributes significantly to education and development. He currently serves as the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), reinforcing his commitment to academic excellence and youth empowerment.
A Family Man Behind the Throne
Though he is often seen performing royal duties, moments like these remind the public of his role as a father and family man. Married to Lady Julia, the Asantehene maintains a dignified balance between tradition and personal life—a blend that continues to inspire many across Ghana and beyond.
