Thomas Partey Charged with Multiple Sexual Offences
Former Arsenal and Ghanaian international midfielder Thomas Partey has been officially charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday.
Allegations Span Over Two Years
The alleged incidents reportedly involve three separate women, occurring between 2021 and 2022. Two rape charges involve one woman, three relate to a second woman, and the sexual assault charge involves a third.
Partey, 32, was initially arrested in July 2022, although his identity was not disclosed at the time. He continued playing for Arsenal throughout the ongoing police investigation.
Court Appearance Set for August
The midfielder is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2025.
Partey Maintains Innocence
His legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, issued a statement:
“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.
Given the ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further.”
Arsenal Responds Following Contract Expiry
Partey’s five-year spell at Arsenal came to an end when his contract expired on June 30. Signed in 2020 for £45 million, he made 52 appearances last season across all competitions.
In response to the charges, Arsenal released a brief statement to Sky Sports News:
“The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.”
Met Police Investigation Ongoing
The Metropolitan Police said the investigation began in February 2022, following the first report of rape.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, stated:
“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.”
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information or affected by the case to contact the police.
