University of Ghana Implements New Exercise Restrictions on Campus

The University of Ghana has taken steps to regulate physical exercise activities on its Legon campus, announcing a new policy that restricts such activities during weekdays. Effective immediately, this rule prohibits exercise in specific areas after 7:30 a.m.

The decision, made public in a notice from the Registrar, aims to facilitate the uninterrupted flow of essential academic and administrative functions. The university has noted a significant number of students, faculty, and external visitors utilizing the campus for workouts, reflecting the institution’s commitment to promoting health and wellness.

However, due to increasing congestion, the administration determined that limiting exercise activities in certain high-traffic areas was necessary. These restrictions apply to the Convocation group of buildings, which houses administrative offices and academic facilities, to ensure that those accessing their workspaces, lecture halls, and laboratories are not obstructed.

In light of these changes, the university encourages all community members to utilize designated sports areas managed by the Sports and Wellness Directorate on weekdays. While restrictions are in place during the week, the campus will remain open for exercise on weekends, although there might be limitations during official events.

The University of Ghana values its relationship with the surrounding community and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all campus users in fostering an environment conducive to both academic success and healthy living.
