Update: Miracle JHS student death, police autopsy confirms suicide

The police autopsy report has confirmed the late Leticia Kyere Pinaman, the 14-year-old final year student of the Miracle Junior School (JHS) committed suicide. A police source told Sky News the report was conducted at the Sunyani Regional Hospital by a team of pathologists from the Kumasi Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). “The said student killed herself by hanging and that nobody touched her or infringed any pain at any part of her body”, the quoted the report, and added, “it was detected by the autopsy that the girl was pregnant”.

When contacted, Superintendent Kennedy Adusei, the Bono Regional Crime Officer confirmed the autopsy report was out but added he could not speak on the matter because the deceased family had challenged the outcome of the report. “The deceased family said they are not satisfied with the outcome of the autopsy and they said they have engaged a private pathologist from Korle Bu so we are waiting for them. Until that was done I cannot speak to the matter”, Supt Adusei told the GNA in a telephone interview.

Efforts made by Sky News to contact the deceased family was unsuccessful as Mr Williams Kyere, the father of Leticia and Agya Mensah, the Abusuapanin (family head) failed to answer their phone calls. The body of Leticia was found hanging at the school’s dining hall on Monday, May 17, at about 1930 hours. This was at a time other students were attending bible studies at the school’s auditorium.

A note found on the body, which has since been deposited at the regional hospital mortuary read “there is so much sorrow and pain in my heart”. The family has since the incident expressed dismay and averred that Leticia was murdered and hanged contrary to the school’s account that she committed suicide.
